Consolidated Container Co. LLC hiked its stake in the large water bottle market by acquiring PolyCycle Solutions.

PolyCycle blow molds 2- to 5-gallon bottles using PET, polycarbonate and Tritan copolyester. It operates manufacturing plants in Irwindale, Calif., and Newnan, Ga., and a warehouse in Dallas. It runs a closed-loop recycling program aimed at keeping PET and PC bottles out of landfills.

"This acquisition strengthens our large format water production capabilities, so that we can better provide our customers with innovation solutions, an expanded PET product offering, and a more seamless customer experience," noted Mark Shafer, CCC beverage group senior vice president and general manager, in an April 9 news release.

"PolyCycle's products complement CCC's product lines, and augments our North American footprint," he added.

PolyCycle was owned by DS Services of America Inc., an Atlanta supplier of plastic and glass water bottles and containers, coffee-making accessories and drinking water filtration equipment.

Atlanta-based CCC runs 57 rigid plastics packaging manufacturing locations and two recycling plants in its Envision Plastics business. It employs about 2,300 and is owned by Loews Corp. of New York, a diversified company also holding interests in insurance, energy and hospitality industries.

Plastics News' data estimates CCC's North American blow molding annual sales at about $810 million, ranking it as the eighth largest blow molder in North America.
